“EU-EXPERT: Successful Women Scientists in EU Research” with Prof. Dr. M. Gasic

SelmaMeyerMentoring and Department Research and Transfer HHU invite all interested female researchers to the information meeting “EU-EXPERT: Successful Women Scientists in EU Research”

Date: 01.10.2019
Time: 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. (Registration opens at 10:45 a.m.)
Place: University Library ULB, Conference room ( 1st floor)

The acquisition of third party research funding serves as a sign of exceptional academic quality and is considered to be an important driving force in any scientific career. Besides the number of publications, relative citation values, number of awards and honors, the amount of external funds raised is the most influential criterion when a researcher is considered for a professorship.
To be awarded a prestigious ERC Starting Grant is regarded to be a major steppingstone towards academic independence and recognition. Targeted at early career researchers of all subject areas (2 to 7 years after obtaining a doctorate) , the European Union’s ERC Starting Grant scheme is a very attractive, yet highly competitive funding programme.
During the first part of our workshop, Dr. Claudia Whittle (Department Research and Transfer HHU) will present the ERC Programme, the terms+conditions of the funding as well as the do’s and don´ts during the application process.
During the second part of our workshop, Dr. Milica Gasic, appointed in April 2019 as full professor for Dialog Systems and Machine Learning at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of Heinrich Heine University, will share her experiences as a highly successful applicant for third leg funding. In 2018, Prof. Gasic won an Alexander von Humboldt Sofja Kovalevskaja award (1.65M€) as well as an ERC Starting Grant (1.5M€). She will talk about her career trajectory as well as encourage early-career researchers to write funding proposals.
Both talks will be followed by a buffet lunch with finger food, providing an opportunity for further discussion. Topics like the implementation of a research project or work-family-life balance and equal opportunities for early-career female researchers may be possible subjects for debate.

You are welcome to attend the information event. Please register here.

Best wishes,
SelmaMeyerMentoring-Team
