Research and teaching abroad

Heinrich Heine University is connected to the academic world through a wide network of international relations. It has 19 partner universities and about 280 ERASMUS partnerships with 165 universities in 28 European countries. Moreover, it maintains almost 100 international agreements with 75 academic institutions worldwide at faculty and departmental level.

Many academics feel enriched by spending part of their academic career abroad. Not only does gaining insight into other research contexts and methods fundamentally enhance their subject-specific expertise, but experiences in intercultural exchange, new social settings and life in foreign countries also considerably contribute to their personal growth.

Academics usually organise research and teaching stays on their own. However, first contacts abroad are made easier through HHU’s already existing contacts with other institutions. Personally and individually made contacts in turn may later just as well result in new institutional cooperation.
