12.03.18 Dancing robots follow the whip

Physicists from Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg (FAU) and Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) have proved that systems of oppositely rotating mac-roscopic particles separate and form homogenous fractions of particles that rotate either clockwise or counter-clockwise. For their experiment, the researchers used mini robots fabricated by means of 3D printing. The results have now been published in the renowned scientific journal Nature Communications.

08.03.18 HHU agrees on closer cooperation with the University of Isfahan

On 1 March 2018, Professor Andrea von Hülsen-Esch, Vice-President for International Relations of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU), signed a Memorandum of Understanding and an Agreement on Scientific Cooperation together with Professor Hoshang Talebi Habib-Abadi, President of the University of Isfahan.

06.03.18 (Tweet) The HHU presents itself in Iran - vice-president of HHU pays a visit and signs cooperation contract

Prof. Dr. Andrea von Hülsen-Esch, vice-president for international relations at the HHU, on the 3rd of March signed a contract of cooperation with Prof. Dr. Hoshang Talebi Habib-Abadi, president of the university of Isfahan, sealing the cooperation between the two universities. The journey to Iran covered the cities of Teheren and Isfahan. It was organised as part of the "German Day of Science" of several German universities at Iran University of Science and Technology (Teheran) and Isfahan University of Medical Sciences.

22.02.18 Lessons from yeast may help tackle dementia

Together with Japanese colleagues, biophysicists at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) and Jülich Research Centre have examined the folding of specific proteins in yeast fungi. They discovered similar mechanisms to those found in prions, i.e. proteins that are misfolded and can trigger neurodegenerative diseases. From the prions in yeast, the researchers were able to acquire new insights into the misfolding of these harmful proteins. Their results have been published in the scientific journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS).

20.02.18 HHU researchers develop new concept for efficient OLEDs

In collaboration with British colleagues, chemists at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf (HHU) have discovered that simple organic carbonyls are potential emitters for organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). These molecules are much cheaper and easier to produce than the compounds used today. The research results were presented as a cover story in the scientific journal CHEMPHYSCHEM.
