Abstract
The present paper describes different theoretical positions and new results helping to understand coordination of speech movements. Firstly, biomechanical constraints of the articulators are described. Secondly, two partly overlapping theoretical concepts namely 'coordinative structures' and 'relative timing' are discussed. Finally, the 'prosodic structure' as a crictical and essential aspect of speech coordination will be explained. While reviewing these concepts, results of currently performed experiments are presented subserving to evaluate the above mentioned concepts on speech movement coordination.
