Studying before Abitur / finishing school – for the exceptionally gifted
How about regularly attending university and accumulating credit points even before you’ve finished school and got your Abitur (German university entrance qualification)? Students have been able to do this at Heinrich Heine University since 2002!
Within the Education programme for gifted youth (Begabtenförderung), exceptionally talented pupils are cordially invited to attend lectures and tutorials (Übungen) in the study programmes Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Medical Physics or Physics at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, or in the study programmes Antique Culture, History, Modern Japan or Philososphy at the Faculty of Philosophy. It may also be possible to attend courses offered by other study programmes on request. Both the school involved and Heinrich Heine University decide which pupils are allowed to take part in the project, as the lessons at university are a substitute for those at school. The pupils must therefore commit themselves to regular attendance and to work in their own time on the school lessons missed.
The project normally begins in the winter semester or at the beginning of the school year.
