How to apply

In this brochure for applicants from abroad (pdf), you will find detailed information on how to apply. How and where you need to apply depends on different aspects:

  • your country of origin (EU member state or not),
  • whether a local (NC) or general admission restriction applies for your prospective study programme or none,
  • whether you would like to apply for a bachelor or a master degree programme or else.

As applicant from an EU member state or a state of the European Economic Area EEA (Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein), you need to apply online first and submit additional documents by post:

As applicant from a non-EU state, please follow the link below for instructions on how to apply. Please observe the application deadlines. Important information for applicants from non-EU states are compiled in this leaflet [pdf].

Language requirements

As an applicant with foreign nationality, you will need to provide evidence on your language proficiency in German by one of these language certificates along with your application. This does not apply if you have acquired a German university entrance qualification or a German university degree.

In certain study programmes which are exclusively taught in English, the German language certificate may be ommitted. Moreover, further language requirements may apply depending on the examination regulations of the individual study programme. Please check the respective requirements for the aspired study programme via the study programme database or contact the academic advisor of the respective department: ⇒Departmental Advisory Service.
