Univ.-Prof. Dr. Lutz Schmitt
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Lutz Schmitt was born in Rheinfelden in 1967. From 1986 to 1992 he studied Chemistry at Freiburg University, and received a doctorate from Munich University of Technology in 1996. This was followed by a period of postdoctoral research at Stanford University. In the following years he headed a Emmy-Noether Junior Researcher Group at both Marburg and Frankfurt University. In 2004 he received a Heisenberg scholarship from the German Research Foundation. From 2005 to 2007 he was Professor of Biochemistry at Heinrich Heine University, and appointed Chair of Biochemistry at Heinrich Heine University in 2008. The Vice President’s main responsibilities include strategic research planning, the training and promotion of young academics, as well as structured doctoral programmes.
