Seminars

These seminars (block courses) are only offered to doctoral candidates of the Math.-Nat.-Fakultät. Each block course includes a Rhetorik Seminar, a Job Application Training and an Assessment-Center Training. Finally an individual One-on-One Feedback Interview is offered.

Rhetoric seminar

Everybody knows that not only knowledge of science is useful, but also the ability to impart it. We teach you exactly this, in small groups of participants.
 
Content of the seminar:  

• Introduction into the basis of rhetoric
• Preparation of a presentation
• Having a presentation
• Practical exercises
• Analysis of the exercises by means of video
• Proposals for optimisation

The presentation at your doctorate exam will also be exercised.

The seminar takes around 4-5 hours.

Participation is free of charge.

Seminar for job applications and entrants

Also when applying for a job, the chances of success depend not only on the professional qualifications but also on the manner of self-presentation. We know from experience that natural scientists also make essential mistakes.

Content of the seminar:

• Avoid mistakes in the cover letter
  
• Hide gaps in the CV
  
• Solve problems in the internet application
  
• Answer competently to difficult questions during the interview 
• Advices for salary negotiations
  

The seminar takes around 3 hours.

Participation is free of charge.

Assessment-Centre-Training for natural scientists

More and more often it happens even to natural scientists during the application period to be confronted with a specific assessment process: the Assessment-Centre. Here, in order to show their abilities, the applicants have to solve logic-problems, participate in group discussions and other jobs. We prepare you for these requirements by giving you the opportunity to know the exercises and courses of events within the assessment centre.

Content of the seminar:  

• Configuration and course of the assessment centre
• Aim of the assessment centre
• Self presentation
• Practical exercises to group discussions and logic problems

The seminar takes around 3 hours.

Participation is free of charge.
