Main areas of research interest

  • Elucidation of regulatory networks and mechanisms in biotechnologically relevant bacteria by studying transcriptional regulators, two-component signal transduction systems and serine/threonine protein kinases.
  • Analysis of the energy metabolism in biotechnologically relevant bacteria by studying the respiratory chain and ATP-generating reactions.
  • Development of microbial producer strains for amino acids, organic acids and other metabolites of industrial relevance using metabolic engineering

  • DNA microarray technology, 2D gel electrophoresis, protein identification and characterization by MALDI-TOF-MS, metabolite analysis by GC-MS, interaction studies using Biacore and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).
