PIERRE ANDRÉ BRANDT Pierre commenced his legal studies at the University of Bonn in the fall semester of 2005. In the summer of 2007, he transferred to Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf. The 23-year-old grew up bilingually as the son of a German-Norwegian couple. Pierre is a true team player. During high school, he was the captain and assistant coach of a hockey team. Pierre values the team spirit of the Düsseldorf Vis Team to a high degree: “We have not only turned into night owls, but into a real team in recent weeks.”
MAXIMILIAN EISENMANN Max has always shown a tremendous interest in comparative law issues which is reflected in his participation in the additional program on Anglo-American Law offered at Heinrich-Heine-University and in his participation in a comparative constitutional law seminar. The 22-year- old has been working as a student research assistant at the Chair for Public Law, Legal Theory and Sociology of Law since June of 2007. In spite of his academic interests, Max also enjoys looking at the practical side of law: “One of the fascinating facets of the Moot Court is that we learn to think as lawyers and write in a more practical, pleading-style kind of way.”
| RICHARD ELLWOOD Richard shares at least two traits with his team mate Pierre: He grew up bilingually and transferred to Heinrich-Heine-University in the spring semester of 2006, having commenced his legal studies at the University of Bielefeld. Richard looks back to a military service of two years during which he was part of the “NATO Response Force 4” and acted as an interpreter. Like most of his team colleagues, Richard has successfully participated in the one-year program on Anglo-American law. He enjoys competitive sports, especially martial arts. The English native speaker was surprised to find out that the Vis Moot has many layers to it: “I would not have expected to learn so much about law and its complex connection to neighboring disciplines like political science and technology in such a short time.” |
ANNA MUNK Anna has been studying law at Heinrich-Heine-University since the fall semester of 2006. Like her team mates, she is very interested in international law issues. In summer 2007, she took part in the first MuiMun (Model University International Model United Nations). In her spare time, Anna enjoys dancing and doing arts, most of all acrylic painting. She is fascinated by the “cultural” side of arbitration: “It is interesting to see how the two main legal cultures - the common law and civil law world - come together and merge in international arbitral proceedings.”
CONSTANTIN VAN LJINDEN Constantin could be called the “Drafting Mastermind” of the Duesseldorf Vis Team. He proofread all parts of the memoranda, ensuring a uniform overall style. Whether his sometimes unconventional, but always creative style will appeal to the arbitrators in Vienna will be something to watch out for. Constantin has completed the additional study program in Anglo-American law. He freelances for the music magazine Juice and enjoys good literature, traveling and sports. His motto for the Vis Moot is as follows: ”I’m in it to win it. But I will keep the same grin, whether I lose or win.” |
