5:00 pm: Registration
All teams are kindly asked to register at the offices of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, Cecilienallee 5 shortly before the Welcome Reception. This way, we know that you are in town. The registration desk will be open from Thursday, 5:00 pm until the end of the Pre-Moot Rounds on Saturday. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
All arbitrators are kindly asked to register either before the Welcome Reception, or on the day of their first pleading, in person at the registration desk or by telephone (+49 211 600 55 208) or by fax (+49 211 600 55 200), but at least one hour before their pleading begins.
6:00 pm: Welcome Reception
Welcome Reception for all teams, coaches and arbitrators at the offices of the law firm Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek. During the Welcome Reception, arbitrators are invited to participate in a short introduction into the nuts and bolts of moot-arbitrating.
9:00 pm: Clubbing Night
Arbitrators, team-members and coaches are invited to gather at the Cubana – Cocktailbar & Restaurant in Düsseldorf’s Media Harbour (“Medienhafen”), Speditionstraße 13. Food and drinks will be at your own cost. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
Afterwards, participants are invited to relax at one of Düsseldorf’s party hot spots, the Milchbar@3001, Franziusstraße 7. Located as well in the Media Harbour, this club is popular among young professionals and students. Aside from “milk” (cocktails) you can also get a good long drink or beer. Again, food and drinks will be at your own cost. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
Friday, March 27
9:00 am to 7:00 pm: General Rounds
Pleadings in various law firms in Düsseldorf. Please see the Pleading Schedule for detailed information and the List of Venues for directions.
9:00 pm: Brewery Night
Teams and arbitrators are invited to gather at the Brewery Schumacher, Oststraße 123. Snacks, traditional “Altbier” and soft drinks will be provided on a limited basis. Additional food and drinks will be at your own cost. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
Düsseldorf is famous for its beer called Altbier, often referred to as Alt (“old beer”). The Alt is a top-fermented beer originating in Westphalia and in Lower Saxony. The fermentation process takes place at a higher temperature than the one used for a bottom-fermented beer, since at the time of its invention there was no technical cooling. When cooling was developed at the end of the 19th century, bottom-fermented brewing spread and Pils became popular. Today, both kinds of beer are available.
In many German dialects, Alt becomes “Aal” (“Dat aale beer”). You can already see from the similar wording that the British “Ale” designates a beer of a top-fermented brewing similar to the Düsseldorf Alt!
Saturday, March 28
9:00 am to 1:00 pm: General Rounds
Pleadings in various law firms in Düsseldorf.
Noon to 1:45 pm: Lunch
Soups and refreshments will be offered at the offices of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek, Cecilienallee 5. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
2:00 pm to 3:30 pm: Final Pleading
During the general rounds, the arbitrators will rate the teams. The two best teams will compete in a final pleading before a tribunal consisting of three renowned arbitrators from the Rhine/Ruhr region. The final pleading will take place in the Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf (Court of Appeals), Cecilienallee 3. Please see the List of Venues for directions.
The German Institution of Arbitration offers a Price for the Best Team in the Düsseldorf Pre-Moot Rounds, consisting of the commentary “Arbitration in Germany – The Model Law in Practice”, edited by Böckstiegel/Nacimiento/Kröll, and a contribution of € 250 to the team’s expenditures in Vienna. All team members will receive a participation certificate. Team coaches may request information about the ranking of their team after the Pre-Moot Rounds via e-mail. Please direct such requests to Bettina Meisch (b.meisch@heuking.de).
If one of the participating teams (the “conflicted team”) is scheduled to plead in Vienna against one of the finalists of the Pre-Moot Rounds, the conflicted team must not attend the final. Instead, it may enjoy a walk along the Rhine or a cup of coffee in one of the cafés at Nordstraße. See the List of Venues for directions (Court of Appeals, Nordstraße is indicated on the right hand side of the map, the Rhine on the left hand side).
3:30 pm to 5:00 pm: Farewell Reception
The 2nd Düsseldorf Pre-Moot Rounds will be closed during a Farewell Reception at the Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf, taking place immediately after the final pleading. Refreshments will be provided.
6:30 pm: Walking Tour through Düsseldorf’s Old Town
All participants who do not have to leave Düsseldorf after the Farewell Reception are invited to join us in a walking tour through Düsseldorf’s old town, which will lead us into a bar for some final drinks (at your own cost). We will meet at 6:30 pm at the corner of Heinrich-Heine Allee and Bolkerstraße. See the List of Venues for directions.

Where to rest during the Pre-Moot Rounds?
During the Pre-Moot Rounds, the "Rittersaal" ("Knight's Hall") at the offices of Heuking Kühn Lüer Wojtek at Cecilienallee 5 will serve as the "Dachgeschoss" of the Juridicum in Vienna, a place that you surely will appreciate. Unlike its prototype in Vienna, the Rittersaal not only invites all mooties, coaches and arbitrators to chill out, but will also take care of your physical wellbeing. Apart from snacks, breakfast and lunch will be offered. We are looking forward to seeing you there before and between the pleadings!
