About the Court of Appeal Duesseldorf: The Court of Appeal Duesseldorf was established on 16 September 1906 as “Imperial Court of Appeal of Duesseldorf”. The reason for the foundation was a division of the districts of Hamm and Cologne. At the beginning, the court resided at Kings Square 15/16 in the centre of Duesseldorf. On 30 April 1910 the Cecilienallee building was inaugurated after a construction period of four years. The complex comprised of the court building itself and the mansion for the president of the court on the opposite side of the street. Together with the court building, the neighbouring seat of the district government was built. In 1958, a ten-floor new building was constructed to accommodate the growing court. Both, the historical building and the new building, were restored from 1998 to 2001. Today, the Court of Appeal Duesseldorf has developed into a court with extra responsibility: Besides the "normal" matters of appeal, the court is given the jurisdiction for all anti-trust and IP matters in the state of Northrhine-Westphalia as well as additional competences in patent law. This makes the court one of the most influential in important fields of business law. |
