Prof. Alexander Lorz,  trustee of the Düsseldorf Moot Association, judged the final of the new Foreign Direct Investment Moot Competition hold in Boston (USA) this weekend. Although very close, Murdoch School of Law edged out Pepperdine School of Law at the end.

Prof. Alexander Lorz  has been responsible for the participation of the Heinrich Heine University in the Philipp C. Jessup International Law Moot since he was appointed Chair of Public International Law, German and Foreign Public Law at the University of Düsseldorf. He was also an early supporter of the participation in the Willem C. Vis Moot and naturally became one of the first members  of the board of trustees of the Düsseldorf Moot Association.

The Foreign Direct Investment International Moot Competition was hold for the first time this year and aims at promoting the knowledge about Bi- and Multilateral Investment Treaties, national investment promotion legislation, and "internationalised" investment contracts which have contributed to the rapid development of a new field of international law that defines obligations between "host States" and foreign investors and creates procedures for resolving related disputes, e.g. through the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes. The Moot was organized by the Center for Int'l Legal Studies, the Suffolk University School of Law, the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution (Pepperdine University), the Dundee University Centre for Energy, Petroleum und Mineral Law and the Deutsche Institution für Schiedsgerichtsbarkeit (DIS).

Prof. Lorz is well known for his dedicated teaching and for being a promoter of the Moot idea. The members of the Düsseldorf Moot Association congratulate Prof. Lorz for the honour of acting as judge in the final. Further judges were Tim Nelson (Skadden Arps Slate Meagher and Flom LLP) and Hew Dundas (President of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators).
