Bond was back, but this time with the new face of George Lazenby. Lazenby’s gimmick was to embody the very personification of Sean Connery’s James Bond. He spent the last of his moneyaquiring a talior-made suit from Connery’s own clothiers; he also purchased a gold Rolex watch. Shortly afterwards, after have a Connery-type haricut, Lazenby was surprised to find Cubby Broccoli in the same salon.

Lazenby emerged on the shotlist of candidates and when he performed superbly in the rehersal of a brutal fight scene, Lazenby was rewarded with the news that he was now the screen’s James Bond.

The supporting cast in OHMSS is excellent. While it has become fashionable to denounce Telly Savalas's Blofled as being too uncouth and "American" for the role, the authors respectfully disagree. Althought Telly is a bit rough round the edges in exculding an air of European sophistication, he poses a formidable menace to Bond. Italian actor Gabriele Ferzetti is distinguished and amuzing as Tracy's crimelord father, and Ilse Sterrat is jarringly effective as Blofeld's Rosa Klebb-type henchwoman Irma Bunt. The loyal office crew - Bernard Lee, Desmond Llewelyn and Lois Maxwell - are a welcome presence, but seen only too briefly.

OHMSS centres around the second appearance of Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Blofeld is making a claim to the title of 'Count' and therefore says that he should rightly recieve it. Posing as Scot Sir Hiliary Bray, James Bond is sent to Switzerland to substaniate his claim.

OHMSS was released during the Christmas season of 1969. It was not a blockbuster by Bondian standards, but rumours that the film was a financial disaster are complete fabrications. In fact, OHMSS was enough of a moneymaker to encourage Broccoli and Saltzman to immediately begin work on planning the next 007 epic.
