The Cord Blood Bank at the Bone Marrow Donor Center Düsseldorf is the German Branch of the European Cord Blood Bank (ECBB-GER).

Information available on frozen cord blood samples

  1. HLA Class I and II typing of the cord blood:
    • HLA-A, B, C typing by serology; one stored sample for confirmatory HLA typing available
    • HLA-DR, DQ typing by PCR-SSO; generic typing of HLA-DRß, -DQß
    • subtyping of HLA-DRß, -DQß and -DPß upon request
  2. Nucleated cell count and CD34 positive cells
  3. Blood group: ABO, D, Kell, Duffy of the cord blood
  4. Infectious disease testing
    • of the mother:
      • HIV1/2; HTLV-1/2; Hepatitis A, B, C; Toxoplasmosis; Syphilis;
      • CMV antibody, total and IgM; HSV, IgG and IgM; EBV, IgG and IgM
    • of the cord blood: CMV (PCR)
  5. Control of sterility: aerobic and anaerobic cultures
  6. Number of hematopoietic precursor cells: CFU-GM, BFU-E, CFU-GEMM
  7. Stored specimen of the cord blood and the maternal blood: DNA, mononuclear cells Plasma/serum of the mother
  8. Testing for the exclusion of contaminating maternal cells
    • X/Y chromosome analysis in sexmismatched situations
    • PCR-SSP for the noninherited maternal HLA-DRß allele
  9. Information available of the mother's interview and review of diseases on the mother and the child at discharge.
    • Diseases (genetic and infections)
    • Problems with pregnancy, delivery and after birth
    • Ethnicity of the parents
